NEWS - XV500 St Athan

I have just heard some sad news. Apparently the Phantom "XV500" on display outside the station HQ is being scrapped, the canopy, flaps and some other parts are being saved for some other static examples but the rest of this is airframe is for the chop...it wont be very long and we will be shaving with it !!!...this is a great shame indeed...Thanks for the info Hugh, i will add your picture tomorrow !

below is Hugh Trainers picture that was taken last April

Phantom FGR.2 XV500 (XV498/U) c/n 3491 at Saints (Hugh Trainer)

The aircraft is actually marked XV498/U to depict the personal mount of St Athan's station commander at the time it was placed on display. Anyone know if its being scrapped in situ or is it being moved to the dump ?

regards Ian G
